Ampati, Sept 12: In a concerted effort to ensure every child in Meghalaya receives the education they deserve, the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA), in collaboration with Red FM 93.5 and the Education Department, launched the “Back-to-School” campaign at Garobadha and Ampati market on Thursday.

The initiative, under the slogan “Opening Doors For Education to Children” and the tagline “Securing Free and Compulsory Education to Children of Meghalaya,” aims to motivate and encourage the citizens of South West Garo Hills to reintegrate school dropouts back into formal education.

At the heart of this campaign is the promotion of education as a fundamental right under Article 21A of the Constitution of India. Through public outreach, the campaign highlights the alternative educational opportunities available, such as the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), to ensure no child is left behind due to circumstance. Speakers emphasized that education is the foundation of a just society and empowers individuals to understand and protect their rights.

Addressing the public, officials underscored the importance of education as a “factory” that shapes individuals to become productive and responsible members of society. They reminded parents of their critical role in ensuring their children receive formal education, irrespective of challenges like poverty, financial crises, or early marriage.

The campaign also provided crucial information to parents and guardians, including the toll-free helpline number, 15100, which allows school dropouts to return to school, irrespective of their age. They also informed that the centre for NIOS registration in the district is Springfield School Ampati.

Adding an interactive element to the event, a quiz competition based on the campaign’s key messages was organized, with prizes awarded to participants who answered correctly. A vibrant dance performance also entertained and engaged the crowd, drawing further attention to the importance of education.

Key speakers included Radio Jockey of Red FM 93.5, South West Garo Hills School Education Officer, Tapos Marak, and members of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), who addressed the pressing issue of school dropouts in the region. The event also saw the participation of the Chief Judicial Magistrates, Ranee Kharsyntiew, Secretary DLSA and Temsu M Sangma, OSD; staff from the District Court; and officers from the Education Department.

This campaign is a vital step in bridging educational gaps in Meghalaya and ensuring that every child is given the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
