Shillong, June 7: The state government has decided to notify an area in the Baghmara Reserve Forest as a Pitcher Plant Sanctuary. The decision was taken at a meeting of the State Board for Wildlife chaired by the chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday.

Speaking to media persons, Minister in-charge Forest & Environment James K Sangma said, “The proposal was brought before the board and we have decided to notify an area in the Baghmara reserve forest as a Pitcher Plant Sanctuary.”
He informed that the board has also decided to notify a portion of a Riat Khwan reserve forest in East Khasi Hills District as a Bird Sanctuary.
The last meeting of the board was held in 2016.
