2 lakh cash with gold looted in Garo Hills

Tura, June 8: Gang of criminals entered Dadenggre civil sub-division jurisdiction adjoining the plain belt region of West Garo Hills and raided the house of a local business woman taking away over two lakh rupees in cash And gold ornaments besides assaulting the family members.

The incident occurred in the house of Karnitha M Marak who runs a successful business enterprise dealing in various commodities.

“It seems the criminals had knowledge about her savings as she had recently received payment for sale of various goods,” informed locals from Dadenggre.

The unidentified men, numbering close to half a dozen, with faces covered in masks, forced their way inside her home in Dadenggre on Monday night and after tying up the couple and family members broke open their almirah and took away cash worth two lakh rupees and several gold ornaments such as necklaces and rings, besides their mobile phones. The criminals were reportedly armed with daggers and country-made guns.

The gang is said to have taken advantage of the absence of police activity along the Dadenggre-Chibinag-Phulbari road which is isolated by dusk.

The family later alerted Dadenggre police and filed an FIR.

Police sources indicate that there is strong suspicion of the involvement of a criminal gang operating in the Chibinang area of the plains belt and investigations are underway to identify the criminals.

Batteries stolen in Damalgre region

Meanwhile, in another robbery, criminals decamped with inverter batteries worth sixty thousand rupees from a school in Okkapara, under Damalgre police station of south West Garo Hills.

The watchman of the Okkapara Lower Primary School alerted police on Tuesday after finding that 4 numbers of inverters, each costing Rs 15,000/-, were missing from the school after a break-in the previous night.
