Shillong, March 25: As the Lok Sabha General Election draws closer, the National People’s Party (NPP) is gaining ground, with many leaders from other political parties joining the party across the state.
Hundreds of youth leaders from the Indian National Congress (INC) in the Mylliem Constituency were officially welcomed to the NPP in a ceremony at the Indoor Stadium in Nongkseh on Monday.
Interestingly, Ronnie V Lyngdoh of the Congress won the MLA election held last year in Mylliem and is currently the Leader of Opposition (LO) in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
However, the leaders speaking at the welcoming ceremony expressed distrust in the leadership of Ronnie V Lyngdoh, the elected MLA of the Congress. One leader allegedly said that Lyngdoh has made big promises before the election, but almost a year after winning, the promises remain unmet. This is the reason why everyone has expressed no confidence in the leadership of Ronnie, added the leader.
The youth leaders were welcomed by NPP State leaders including MLA Weiladmiki Shylla, MLA Banteidor Lyngdoh, Former MLA of Mylliem Hamlemson Dohling, Party State Treasurer Daniel M Thangkhiew, Party Spokesperson Himalaya Shangpliang, and leaders of the National People’s Youth Front (NPYF).
Just last Friday, the State President of the NPP, Prestone Tynsong, welcomed about thirty to forty top leaders of the United Democratic Party (UDP) in Ri Bhoi District.
With the joining of leaders from different political parties and the announcement of BJP support in the two Parliamentary Constituency seats, the National People’s Party is gearing up with high hopes for the upcoming MP election scheduled on April 19.
