Bihar Train accident: 4 dead, over 70 injured as North East Superfast Express derails in Buxar

Guwahati, Oct 12: In a tragic incident, four persons were killed and over 70 injured when six coaches of the Assam-bound North East Superfast Express derailed in Buxar district of Bihar on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred at around 9.53 p.m. near the Raghunathpur railway station.

According to official, the 23-coach train (No.12506) left the Anand Vihar terminal in Delhi at 7.40 a.m. on Wednesday and was enroute to Tinsukia in Assam.

A quick response team from the Danapur division of the East Central Railway (ECR) rushed to the spot.

Due to the derailment, the upline and downline of the route has been affected and trains plying on the stretch have been diverted to other routes.

Taking to X (former Twitter), Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Rescue operation going on at war footing at Buxar derailment sire. NDRF, SDRF, District administration, Railway officials, and local residents are all working as one team. Injured shifted to hospital. War room operating.”

He said rescue operations would be completed soon which will be followed by the restoration of the tracks.

Meanwhile, the Railway has issued helpline numbers for the public to reach out for information: Patna station (PNBE)-9771449971, Danapur station (DNR) – 8905697493, and Ara station (ARA) – 8306182542.

The Indian Railways has cancelled two trains and diverted 21 trains due to the Buxar train derailment. The Kashi-Patna Jan Shatabdi Express (15125) and Pathna-Kashi Jan Shatabdi Express (15126) trains have been cancelled due to the incident, as per a statement by the East Central Railway zone.

CM Conrad K Sangma also took to X (formerly twitter) to inform about the helpline number.
“We are in touch with railway authorities and have been monitoring the situation. Citizens of Meghalaya can reach out to State authorities for assistance. Helpline No. 18003453644,” he tweeted.

 

He further said “Spoke to Sh @AshwiniVaishnaw ji on the #NorthEastExpress train derailment at #Buxar. He informed that all injured passengers are being taken to hospitals and train to ferry passengers for onward journey have started. Our State officials are in touch to ensure that residents from Meghalaya are being provided assistance.”
