Guwahati, June 23: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to difuse the ongoing security concerns of Jiribam and Cachar.
N. Biren Singh, accompanied by senior minister L. Susindro Singh, traveled to Guwahati on Saturday.
With Jiribam in Manipur witnessing violence, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma instructed officials to ensure peace and tranquillity is maintained in Cachar.
He reviewed the situation on Saturday.
Jiribam in Manipur which shares border with Assam is restive following violent incidents.
Hundreds of people from Jiribam are taking shelter in Assam following the violence in early this month.
Taking to X(formerly twitter), the office of chief minister of Assam said, “The office of the chief minister of Assam stated in X on Saturday, “HCM @himantabiswa held a Video Conference with @dccachar and SP @cacharpolice on the recent incidents in Jiribam, Manipur and instructed them to ensure peace and tranquillity is maintained in Cachar. HCM instructed officials to ensure that all humanitarian aid is provided to the people who have taken refuge in the district.@CSAssam_ and @DGPAssamPolice and other officials were also present in the meeting”.
On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting to review the security situation in Manipur and sought to increase central forces strategic deployment to restore peace and tranquillity in the state. The central forces were withdrawn from Manipur for deployment in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls.
With Jiribam district in Manipur continuing to restive additional CRPF troopers have been deployed in the interior areas of its Borobekra subdivision.

Tension gripped the area after the killing of 59-year-old farmer Soibam Saratkumar Singh on June 6.
At least 220 people have been killed, 1,500 injured and 60,000 displaced since violence broke out between the Meitei and Kuki-Zomi communities on May 3 last year.
