Speaking to reporters, BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek said the party high command has informed its decision to him and the state president to field Bernard N Marak for the bye-election to the Gambegre seat. Marak is the lone aspirant applying for the party ticket.

“Accordingly, Marak will be filing his nomination papers the day after tomorrow (Thursday),” he said.

The bye-election is necessitated following the resignation of Saleng A Sangma from the Congress, after his election as Tura member of parliament (MP).

While NPP is fielding chief minister’s wife Dr Mehtab Chandi A. Sangma, TMC has fielded Sadhiarani M. Sangma, the sitting MDC and wife of former Rangsakona legislator, Zenith M. Sangma.

Congress has field Jingjang M. Marak, a close aide of Tura MP Saleng Sangma.

With the announcement of BJP candidate, the constituency is set to see multi-cornered contest.
