BJP Infighting: BJP leaders from Ri Bhoi to submit report against Mawrie’s failed leadership

Must read

Shillong, Feb 4: BJP leaders from Ri Bhoi on Friday said they are ready with a report against the state president Ernest Mawrie for his alleged failed leadership.

A joint statement issued by the Ri Bhoi district president S. Thabah, former general secretary S. Rani and six other leaders of the party said the report is expected to be signed by more than 1,000 party men highlighting the failed presidentship of Mawrie.

The report is also with complete timeline as to how many leaders have resigned right from the state level down to the mandals in protest over Mawrie’s failed leadership of the BJP in Meghalaya.

It also highlighted the anti-government stance taken by Mawrie and the sudden U-turn, which caused a huge embarrassment to the party while denting its image among the voters at large.

“The final report will be submitted after the upcoming elections slated in 5 states,” they said adding “as responsible Karyakartas we do not want to divert party central leadership’s attention and energy to our problem, when they have more important tasks in the states facing immediate elections.”

The Ri Bhoi group has also slammed Mawrie for demanding a CBI probe and called it a sarcastic approach as the leaders feel that he should have resigned from the government before seeking any such demand.

They were referring to the appointment of Mawrie as the adviser to the chief minister Conrad K Sangma.

The leaders also feel that Mawrie should do proper homework before demanding a CBI probe.

The group lamented Mawrie’s move and self-interest.

“The whole drama was initiated as a part of a publicity stunt to try and promote his interest as a West Shillong probable candidate,” the leaders said.

The Ri Bhoi leaders further alleged Mawrie of taking NPP’s help in trying to consolidate his position when the dissident groups demand for Pynthorumkhrah MLA AL Hek as his replacement grew louder.

They also claimed that it was not due to Mawrie that South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai was inducted as a Minister.

“Mawrie in fact failed to bring in the change after Hek’s two and a half years of ministry completion. It was rather the Chief Minister who willingly made the change and brought in Shullai to the cabinet,” the leaders said.

Calling Mawrie and Sarwan Jhunjhunwala opportunists, they stated that the BJP party in Meghalaya has become a businessmen’s party rather than a party which takes up peoples issues.

“With Mawrie as president we are very sure that both the MLAs will quit the party and we will score a big duck in Meghalaya,” they warned.
