GUWAHATI, Jan 6: Kamal Dey, the president of the Jalukbari Mandal Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was found dead under mysterious circumstances near his residence in Shankar Nagar, Maligaon, early Monday morning. The discovery of his body at around 3 am has raised questions about the cause of his death, with rumors of foul play quickly circulating.
Initial reports indicated that Dey may have been murdered by miscreants while returning home late at night. According to sources, Dey left his home around 2:30 am to drop a friend off, and the incident occurred on his return journey, around 2:47 am. Eyewitnesses and early speculations suggested a possible attack by unidentified assailants.
However, Guwahati Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta, after visiting the scene, stated that preliminary evidence points to an accidental death. “We reviewed CCTV footage from the area, which shows that Dey fell off his Scooty after hitting a speed breaker at around 2:47 am,” Mahanta explained. “He was taken to Swagat Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.”
Despite the police’s findings, public speculation about foul play has persisted, prompting authorities to escalate the investigation. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has now been brought in for a more thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding Dey’s death. “A CID probe has been initiated, and the exact cause of death will be determined after the postmortem report is received,” Mahanta added.
The incident has sparked widespread concern, with the community and political circles alike eagerly awaiting further clarification on the cause of the BJP leader’s tragic demise.
