Shillong, Nov 27: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) marked November 26 as ‘Constitution Gaurav Divas’ or ‘Day for Pride in the Constitution’ with events planned across the nation, including Meghalaya. The celebrations, aimed at honoring the Indian Constitution and its foundational principles, will continue until January 26, 2025.
In a statement, the party emphasized the significance of the Constitution in uniting the nation and safeguarding democracy. “These events aim to remind people of the sanctity of our Constitution, the unshakable promises ingrained in our founding principles, and the importance of protecting the foundation of the nation as a united whole,” the statement read.
The Meghalaya BJP has organized programs to raise awareness about the Constitution among the masses, focusing on ensuring that historical mistakes, such as the Emergency, are not repeated. The party also highlighted the role of constitutional knowledge in countering divisive narratives designed for political gains.
The BJP stressed that the Constitution has been the nation’s guiding force through crises and has upheld India’s unity amidst its vast diversity. “If the nation has survived the test of time, it is because the Constitution has bound us together and provided a rallying point during moments of challenge,” the statement added.
Calling upon the people of Meghalaya, the BJP extended an open invitation to participate in the ongoing celebrations. “This festival celebrates the glory of the world’s most elaborate Constitution, the Indian Constitution. Join us in honoring its legacy,” the party urged.
