Must read

Kokrajhar, Jan 24: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said Assam’s language and culture will only be protected by the BJP.

“Only BJP, under the leadership of Narendra Modi, can make Assam corruption-free, terrorism-free and pollution-free”, Shah said at a public rally in Kokrajhar of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) on Sunday.

He was here for the second consecutive visit to Assam ahead of its Assembly elections in April-May. Last time, he was here on a three-day visit to Assam and Manipur during which he, was in Assam for two days.

“This is a historic rally. I want to tell the entire country that I have attended several mega rallies , but this rally is giving me lot of satisfaction,” Shah said to a thunderous cheer.

Shah, said the BTR Accord signed between Centre, Assam and National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) cadres last year January in presence of Shah himself, has brought peace in the region and there are no rift between the Bodos and non-Bodos.

“Once this region had seen enough blood bath and now this region will see maximum development. One year has passed, Bodoland elections have been commenced peacefully and now Bodoland will start walking on the path of development,” Shah said.

He said the surrendered militants will be given Rs 4 lakh rupees each and a package of Rs 5000 crore that was promised in bodo region has started.

The BJP had formed a post-poll alliance with the United People’s Party-Liberal (UPPL) and Gana Suraksha Party to come victorious in the Bodoland Territorial Council elections December last year.

Drawing semantics between the BTC elections and the Jammu and Kashmir elections, Shah said, “We scrapped 370 in Jammu and Kashmir after which, we have held elections and cops did not have to fire a single bullet.”

Firing salvos at the opposition Congress, Shah said, “The Congress too signed a lot of accords, but they never held up to the promises made under those Accords.”

“The promises of Bodoland accord is part of larger vision of PM Modi for peace and development of northeast. Modi’s new india cannot be fulfilled without our new Bodoland,” Shah said.

Shah’s this visit is after a day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was here on Saturday to distribute land Pattas to 1.6 lakh indigenous families.

However, like Modi, Shah too did not make a comment on Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 in Assam.
