Shillong, July 1: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to field a candidate for the upcoming bye-election to the Gambegre Assembly seat.
Informing this on Monday, BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek said, “I had discussed this (issue) with our president and national vice president and incharge BJP Meghalaya. The party is very keen so definitely we will be contesting the election.”
He, however, said that the party is yet to receive any probable names though there are so many ticket aspirants. “So names should come then only we will discuss,” Hek said.
Asked, the BJP leader said he said the name of Tura MDC Bernard N Marak is doing the rounds but it will depend on the party to whom ticket will be allotted.
Hek, however, denied that there is any resentment against the state president Rikman G Momin.
“We have not received any resentment (letter against Rikman) officially. Talks will always be there but why believe in this talking,” he said. According to him, problems will always be there in every political party but such things are internal matters to be resolved within the party.
To another question, Hek said that he doesn’t see Congress emerging as a strong force in Garo Hills since MP election is different and MLA and MDC election are also different.
He further maintained that the BJP is a national party and is ready to fight elections to the two autonomous district councils (ADCs) as well. “If we contest MP and MLA, why not MDC also,” he stated.
