Tura, May 16: The body of a 45 year old man who went missing on Thursday evening while out on a fishing trip to Pelga water falls, near Tura, has been retrieved from the waters down stream after three extensive days of search by teams from the fire and emergency rescue service, disaster rescue teams and members of the public.
“Dead body was recovered from the Ganol River in between Banseng wari and Do.mesal wari approximately 1/2 km distance from Pelga Falls,” informed West Garo Hills SP Dr MGR Kumar.
The body has been identified as that of 45 year old John Ch Marak of Tura whi had left home for fishing on Thursday but failed to turn up and attempts to reach him were unsuccessful. It appears that he may have been dragged into deeper waters by the strong currents while fishing.
The waters of all major streams and rivers of Garo Hills, including Ganol river that flows outside of Tura, have risen with strong water currents in view of the rains over the past couple of days.
