Marak, the son of Salseng M. Sangma, lost his life on February 25, 2023, after reportedly falling from Jadi Dare, a waterfall over 120 feet high, in Dorengkigre village. He had visited the site with friends. The location is approximately 12 kilometers from Williamnagar town, across the Simsang River.

However, his father, Salseng M. Sangma, never accepted the incident as a mere accident. He raised concerns about the nature of his son’s injuries, questioning how a fall from such a great height resulted in only cuts on the right temple and a deep wound at the back of the head, while the rest of the body remained largely unscathed, without any significant bruises or fractures.

He also pointed out that the clothes and wristwatch his son was wearing on the day of the incident showed no signs of damage, despite the alleged fall from a high cliff.

Dissatisfied with the initial findings, he filed a petition in the High Court, which subsequently ordered the exhumation and an on-the-spot post-mortem for a thorough investigation. Authorities conducted the exhumation on Wednesday as part of the ongoing inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Marak’s death.

Further details are awaited as forensic experts analyze the remains to determine the cause of death.
