Boko, Feb 5: In a proud moment for Assam, Angshuman Kalita, a resident of Dakuapara village in Boko, has been selected as Scientist ‘C’ at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Kalita, the son of Gokul Chandra Kalita and Aditi Kalita, will join the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Thiruvananthapuram on February 14. VSSC is ISRO’s lead centre for the design and development of launch vehicle technology.
The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) South Kamrup felicitated Kalita on Wednesday for his remarkable achievement. Speaking at the event, AASU General Secretary Ajit Ali expressed immense pride, saying Kalita’s selection reflects positively on the entire region.
Later, the Asom Jatiya Mahila Parishad also honoured Kalita at his residence.
Addressing media persons, Kalita shared insights about his journey, emphasizing that he never attended any formal coaching classes for the competitive examinations. He previously cleared the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) exam and worked there for six months before securing an All-India Rank of 40 in ISRO’s selection process.
“I never thought I would work for India’s top scientific organizations like BARC and ISRO. But I believed in my potential and focused on passing the exams through self-study,” he said.
Kalita completed his schooling at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Boko, and later graduated in Mechanical Engineering from NIT Silchar in 2020.
His success stands as an inspiration for the youth of Assam aspiring to pursue careers in science and technology.
