Shillong, May 26: With the lockdown in Shillong completing 26 days on Wednesday, the lives of those working in the informal or unorganized sectors such as daily wage labourers and employees of small shops and establishments have been at tenterhooks as they struggle to meet their ends meet.
Taking note of the plight of such people, many social organizations in the city have come forward to provide them with some aid such as ration from time to time. On Wednesday, the Bongo-Bhasi Mahasabha Unit Shillong (BBMUS) distributed ration to the needy people in Jail Road area in hope that they atleast don’t go hungry to bed in these trying times.
It is pertinent to note that the most affected by the recent lockdowns have been the people engaged in the informal sector as they live hand to mouth with their daily earnings. In view of the lack of any work, they have all but been left to the mercy of others to survive. Thus, the little helping hand they are receiving from the many quarters and social organizations come as a blessing to them.
