Shillong, May 30: A heavy thunderstorm on Wednesday caused by Cyclone Remal swept across West Jaiñtia Hills causing significant damage, especially in the District HQ, Jowai Town.
Late yesterday evening, the rain led to the collapse of the boundary wall of the Government Girl’s Higher Secondary School Jowai in the Chutwakhu locality.
The collapse of the wall, which was erected along the PWD Road, has alarmed the parents of students attending the school situated below the wall.
Residents and commuters are also concerned that the PWD Road might be washed away due to the rain and the presence of the PHE’s main water and domestic water supply pipes.
