Shillong, March 18: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, on Tuesday announced that arrests have been made in connection with the food poisoning incident in Karnataka, in which two students from the State have died.
As per sources, among the three arrested, two include the owner of the residential school and the hostel warden.

CM Sangma announced about the arrests through a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle. He also informed that Commissioner and Secretary (Home) Cyril Diengdoh, along with other government officials, is in Karnataka to assist affected families and coordinate with local authorities.
One of the deceased students from Meghalaya has been identified as Khrehlang Khongtani, a Class VII student. The other student has bene identified as Namebantei Marwein, 12-years-old, from Sohparu, near Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills district. Both were among the 24 students from Meghalaya who were residing in the hostel where the tragedy occurred.
Following the food poisoning incident, all affected students have been hospitalized by the local district administration.
The state team comprising of officials from Education Department reached the place of occurrence in Mandya district of Karnataka and took stock of the situation. The team met the District Magistrate of Mandya District and also visited the hospital where the students belonging to Meghalaya are being given medical care.
They also visited the residential school where the incident took place and met all the stakeholders. The team will be submitting their report to the Education Department subsequently.
The school in question is Gokula Vidyasamsthe in Malavalli, Mandya district.

Meghalaya government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 3 lakh for the families of the deceased and has assured full medical support for those undergoing treatment.
CM Sangma also added that efforts are on to bring the students back to the State.
All other 22 students from Meghalaya are in stable condition and are being monitored closely.
More than 120 people fell ill after consuming food prepared at a local hotel in Malavalli, including 40 students of Gokula Vidyasamsthe.
