Shillong, July 11: One person has been arrested for allegedly being involved in the recent quadruple murder case in Umpleng village, which falls under East Jaintia Hills District.
“In connection with the recent discoveries of dead bodies of four persons in Umpleng area on July 6, suspected to have been murdered, a case was registered under section 103/3(5) BNS, and during the course of investigation, one person was arrested,” district police chief Giri Prasad said on Thursday.
He said that the details of the arrested person are not being disclosed in the interest of investigation.
“Investigation is ongoing to trace and to arrest the other person(s) involved in the case,” the SP assured.
On July 6, four persons were found brutally murdered with their heads severed in remote Umpleng village.
According to police, the victims were also found with their hands and feet bound in a forested area in the outskirts of the village.
So far, three of the deceased persons have been identified by their family members. They include: Ravi Rai (23) of Patha Elam, Nepal; Nazar Kyndait (33) of Dkhiah East Pohshnong, East Jaintia Hills District; and Rajesh Rai (26) from Dharan Sunsari, Koshi Anchal, Nepal.
The criminal case has been registered with the Khliehriat police station.
