A 50-year-old trader, Ashok Goyal, was shot dead at point-blank range on NH17 in the Kalyanpur village area near Goalpara town on Sunday evening leading to anger in the trading community.
One person has been arrested for allegedly being involved in the recent quadruple murder case in Umpleng village, which falls under East Jaintia Hills District.
According to the police version, on July 5, Jintu Chakraborty, the caretaker at the New Life Foundation Rehab Centre, reported at Goalpara Police Station that Niksamseng Marak, who was admitted to the rehab centre, got a head injury while trying to escape on July 4 at 8 am. Marak was subsequently taken to Goalpara Civil Hospital but unfortunately, he died at the hospital.
The incident has caused a stir in the entire area. The woman's family members discovered her body in the morning and immediately informed the Chariduar police.
The victim was reportedly shot at point-blank range inside a car and met with a tragic demise in an area falling under the jurisdiction of the NCC police station.
