Dimapur, June 29: Dimapur Police have arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly murdering and sexually assaulting his cousin, a 28-year-old woman, at Master Colony in Nagaland’s commercial hub, while also rescuing three minors who had gone missing from the victim’s residence.
According to police, the body of the woman, identified as Roshni (28), daughter of Fazar Ali of Kandhulimari in Assam’s Nagaon district, was found at her residence in Master Colony, Naharbari, Ward-10, Lane-1 on Saturday morning.
The Women Police Station received information about the death from East Police Station at around 10.30 am and immediately rushed a team to the spot. Following an inquest, the body was shifted to the District Hospital Dimapur morgue for post-mortem examination.
During the preliminary investigation, police discovered that the deceased’s two minor daughters and her minor brother were missing from the house, triggering a search operation.
Acting on specific inputs, investigators traced and rescued the three children from Diphupar B village in the 5th Mile area of Chümoukedima district. After medical examinations, the children were handed over to Childline and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) was informed as per protocol.
Police subsequently detained Salim Ali (27), son of late Intaz Ali of Kandhulimari in Assam’s Nagaon district and a resident of Master Colony, for questioning.
Based on evidence gathered during the investigation, Salim Ali was formally arrested for the alleged murder and subsequent sexual assault of the deceased, who was his cousin, police said.
A case has been registered at the Women Police Station, Dimapur, and further investigations are underway.
Police have withheld additional details, citing the sensitivity of the case and the ongoing probe.
