Dibrugarh, Nov 24: A Buddhist monk was found murdered inside his room at the Inthem Mungong Buddha Vihar in Tinsukia district’s Margherita on Sunday morning, sending shockwaves across the area.
The deceased, identified as Indrabonsho Bikkhu (58), was discovered lying on his bed with grievous injuries. Police said they recovered a blood-stained axe from beside the body.
“We received information early this morning and have registered a case of murder. The body has been sent for post-mortem. Sniffer dogs have been deployed, and all possible angles are being examined as we collect evidence from the scene,” a senior police official said.

Residents expressed outrage over the brutal killing and demanded swift justice.
The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) strongly condemned the incident.
“This barbaric act has brought shame to human society,” said Konseng Gogoi, general secretary of AASU’s Tinsukia district unit. “We demand immediate and strict action to ensure justice for the head monk of the Inthem Buddhist Monastery.”
Police have intensified investigation efforts, though no arrests were reported till the time of filing this report.
