Shillong, Nov 24: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) apprehended a suspected drug peddler and seized heroin from his vehicle in the Umpling area of Shillong on Sunday evening.

Police said that based on reliable information that one Pynshngain Kharkongor of Lumdeingmet, Umpling, was preparing to deliver narcotics to a customer, an ANTF team launched a swift operation and intercepted his white Swift Dzire (Reg. No. ML 05 R 9778) at Umpling Lumdeingmet.

During a search conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, officers recovered two soap cases containing 22.83 grams of heroin. A preliminary test confirmed the substance as heroin, officials said.

Kharkongor was immediately detained and taken to Rynjah Police Station for further legal action. The vehicle and seized contraband have been taken into custody, and a case under the NDPS Act is being registered.
