Agartala, Dec 10: The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a Nigerian national, three Bangladeshi nationals, and an Indian tout in separate operations along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura on Monday.
Acting on specific intelligence, the BSF set up a checkpoint at Kaiyedhepa in Sepahijala district, where a Nigerian national, identified as Maxwel Nweke (34), was caught attempting to enter Bangladesh from India. He was spotted moving suspiciously along the India-Bangladesh border road.
Following Nweke’s apprehension, the BSF arrested an Indian tout, Suraj Prasad, a resident of Amtali in the West Tripura district. Prasad, a known tout under BSF surveillance, was attempting to flee on a motorcycle when he was intercepted.
In a separate operation, BSF personnel apprehended a 15-year-old Bangladeshi girl at Mangroli in North Tripura district. The minor was attempting to cross the border fence to enter India.
Two of the arrested Bangladeshis have been identified as residents of Bagerhat district, Bangladesh.
The BSF has intensified its operations along the 856-km India-Bangladesh border in Tripura to prevent infiltration, exfiltration, and cross-border crimes, including the smuggling of contraband.
