BSF, BGB hold key meeting, resolve to combat border crimes

New Delhi, June 25: In a significant move to enhance bilateral cooperation, the Border Security Force (BSF) of India and its Bangladesh counterpart the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have resolved to strengthen their coordination to combat crimes along the shared boundary. This resolution emerged from the ongoing annual coordination conference held in New Delhi, officials reported on Monday.

“Both sides resolved to jointly address security challenges along the India-Bangladesh border, as we have the shared commitment for peace and security,” a BSF official stated.

The heads of the two forces also signed the Joint Record of Discussion during the meet, which highlighted various pressing issues. The issues included attacks on BSF personnel by Bangladeshi miscreants, attempts to snatch weapons from security forces, and infiltration. The agreement underscored the necessity of combating transnational crimes effectively.

The discussions also covered stepping up efforts to curb the smuggling of wildlife, cattle, drugs, and fake currencies across the border. Both forces emphasized the importance of coordinated patrols and real-time intelligence sharing for better border management.

A 14-member Indian delegation, led by Inspector General Ayush Mani Tiwari of the BSF South Bengal Frontier, engaged in talks with an 11-member Bangladeshi delegation. The BGB team was headed by Brigadier General Shamim Ahmed, Additional Director General and region commander of the Southwestern Region in Jessore.
