Guwahati, May 12: Constable Deepak Chingakham of the Border Security Force (BSF), hailing from Yairipok Yambem village in Imphal East district of Manipur, attained martyrdom on May 11 after sustaining fatal injuries during unprovoked cross-border firing from Pakistan along the International Boundary in the R S Pura sector of Jammu.
In a solemn tribute, the BSF headquarters confirmed the tragic loss: “We salute the supreme sacrifice made by BSF Braveheart Constable(GD) Deepak Chingakham in the service of the nation.”
The Director General of BSF and all ranks have expressed their deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Constable Chingakham’s courage, dedication, and selfless service will forever be remembered in the annals of the force.
Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor, Jammu and Kashmir UT & all ranks of BSF Jammu today attended a wreath laying ceremony and paid homage to Deepak Chingakham.
The news of his martyrdom has deeply moved people in his home state of Manipur. Former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh expressed profound grief:
“Deeply saddened by the martyrdom of BSF Braveheart Constable Deepak Chingakham, who laid down his life in the line of duty. As a proud Manipuri-Meitei, his courage reflects the unwavering commitment of our people to serve the nation. His sacrifice will always be remembered with honour and pride. We stand with his family during this difficult time and will extend all possible support.”

MLA Thangjam Biswajit Singh echoed similar sentiments, saying:
“His courage and sacrifice will forever inspire us. Entire Manipur stands in solidarity with the bereaved family.”
Keisham Meghachandra Singh, President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, also paid tribute:
“Hailing from Yairipok Yambem, Deepak Chingakham served the nation with remarkable courage. The people of Manipur, and indeed the entire country, are proud of his supreme sacrifice.”
