TURA, Aug 19: BSNL Internet services in the entire five districts of Garo Hills have been down for the last two days, since Friday morning, resulting in strangulation of essential services, particularly financial services such as banks and other financial institutions.
BSNL officials inform that a major fibre breakdown has occurred between Goalpara and Guwahati which connects the fibre line to the Garo Hills region.
While BSNL officials claimed the link went down at 7 AM of Friday, internet services were actually down from 2 AM of Friday, 5 hours earlier.
Efforts were being made by the BSNL technical teams to restore the link but without success, even by late Saturday afternoon.
Banks, post offices, government departments and a multitude of private establishments have had their work and finances badly disrupted in view of the fibre cut.
It is worth mentioning that BSNL is the biggest telecommunications company across the Garo Hills and has the largest number of FTTH fibre connections, particularly in Tura.
It is also known for frequent disruptions of network, particularly the internet services, and most are attributed to poor maintenance and bad engineering when it comes to laying of cables beside the roads, particularly the highways.
