Shillong, March 16: Power Minister James Sangma today assured the house that the burden of paying the Rs 1345.72 Crore loan sanctioned under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan Scheme won’t be passed on to the customers of the state.
He informed during question hour that the total monthly interest will be Rs 10.65 crores once the state avails the total loan sanctioned.
On a supplementary question placed by Rangsakona MLA Zenith Sangma on the feasibility of the loan for an already debt-ridden company, James said that it was a good scheme for DISCOMS in distress and that the rate of interest with the period of the moratorium was attractive.
The Minister also said that the total amount of loan sanctioned by the Government of India Agencies under Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan to MeECL/ MePDCL is REC Ltd Rs 672.86 crore while Power Finance Corporation Limited is Rs 672.86 crore as the total comes to Rs 1345.72 crore.
Replying to a query he further said the total amount of loan availed by MeECL/ MePDCL is Rs 386.87 crore.
He, however, said the rate of interest to be paid for the loan by MeECL/ MePDCL is 9.5 percent.
Stating that the total average monthly requirement is Rs 3.06 crore, James said the loan amount availed for Rs 193.43 crore from the REC Ltd and Rs 193.43 cr availed from Power Finance Corporation Limited.
