Shillong, Jan 28: The state cabinet on Thursday is likely to decide on the issue of holding the election for the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.
District Council Affairs Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said, “From the District Council Affairs Department we have moved to the cabinet so it is for the consideration of the cabinet to see whether to hold the election or not.”
Asserting that the decision on this is likely to be taken up in the cabinet on Thursday, Rymbui said, “The cabinet will decide on the issue whether to hold the GHADC election or not, it will also decide on when to hold the election, so tomorrow (Jan 28) you will get the information.”
The GHADC was brought under the administrator’s rule in October last year after the state government’s decision to postpone the election due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The tenure of the present House has expired on October 18, 2020. It may be mentioned here that the elections to the GHADC were held on October 12, 2015, and counting on October 15, 2015.
