SHILLONG, FEB 20: Minister Education Rakkam A Sangma on Wednesday informed that the state government has started the preparatory activity to make the Captain Williamson Sangma State University functional.
Replying in the Assembly, Sangma said that the government is in the process of sanctioning 100 additional posts of faculty in Tura and 6 for Shillong campus.
The financial implication for this is Rs 45.7 crore annually.
He informed that the process to appoint the vice chancellor of the state university is almost at the final stage.
Sangma said that the plan was to make the state unviersity functional by 2024.
However, in view of the (upcoming) general elections, if we cannot recruit all faculty, the state university will have to be made functional 2025.
Further, the minister informed that a total of Rs 16.96 crore has been spent so far on construction of infrastructure for the university.
He said that the construction of administrative block and academic block and construction of boys and girls hostel have been completed
So far 58 posts have been sanctioned including vice chancellor and registrar. He also informed that internal road and water supply have also been sanctioned.
“The Board of Governors has been constituted. The first Board of Governor meeting was held n January 14, 2022 chaired by the Education Minister,” he added.
