Captain Williamson Sangma State University to begin classes from 2024: Education Minister

Shillong, Aug 08: Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on Tuesday informed that the first academic session of the Captain Williamson Sangma State University will start from 2024.

“We are now in the process of recruiting the Vice Chancellor, Pro Vice Chancellor and others,” Sangma told reporters.

He said that the state government has also decided to set up the Shillong campus of the State University.

Earlier in March, this year the Captain Williamson Sangma State University (Amendment) Act, 2023 was passed by the State Assembly.

The objective of the Act was to have State University catering to both higher and technical education offering higher education in the fields of humanities, general sciences, engineering, physical sciences, life sciences, commerce, performing arts, professional courses, technology and related areas.

It will also provide scope for research, advancement and dissemination of knowledge therein.

Regarding the problems faced by students appearing for CUET examination, Sangma said the state will get another centre in Jowai apart from the three existing centres which include two in Shillong and one in Tura.
