Shillong, May 8: Habemus Papam—The conclave of Cardinals convened in the Sistine Chapel has elected Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as the 267th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church.
Upon his election, the new pontiff took the name Pope Leo XIV, marking a new chapter for the Church. The announcement was made from the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica, where the traditional declaration “Habemus Papam!”—“We have a Pope!”—was delivered to the gathered faithful.
Pope Leo XIV succeeds Pope Francis and is expected to continue leading the Church through an era marked by both tradition and transformation.
