Shillong, Aug 30: As part of providing ideal services to the people as well as retailers of the Iewduh (bara bazar), Hima Mylliem, KHADC CEM Titos Chyne along with the Executive members of the Hima Mylliem on Tuesday inaugurated the CCTV and public announcement system put in place in the market.
To make the work of the people a little easier a speaker has been set up so that important announcements and decisions taken by the Hima Mylliem can be announced to the masses in an easier and more effortless manner. Similarly, CCTVs will help in coping and bring down the rate of petty crimes in the market. Additionally, a two-storied building will be constructed to make the market bigger and easier for both producers and consumers, the foundation stone for which will be laid soon.
Acting Syiem of the Hima Mylliem stated that the main aim of the installation of these speakers and CCTVs is because of the extensive rise in petty crimes. He said there have been words circulating that Iewduh will be permanently closed due to the massive rise in these petty crimes. However, he asserted that Iewduh is the only livelihood option for many khasis.
KHADC Chief Titos talked about the complaints received about thieves which was affecting the retailers in an enormous amount, therefore, an urgent meeting was convened to take the decision of installation of CCTVs so as to cope with these rising issues as well as monitor the usage of plastics in the market.
He stressed that sellers and buyers are not allowed to use plastics and anyone found to be using plastics will be penalized.
He also informed that if outsiders are found in possession of plastics, trading license will be banned for them.
In addition, he mentioned that, “It is high time for the people to start their own start ups and businesses and minimize the amount of outside businesses, as many youth in our region are unemployed it is an opportunity for them to use this space to start their own enterprises. Hima Mylliem will also set up these rules to minimize the outside businesses.”
