SHILLONG, FEB 19: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong on Monday informed the Assembly that the status of the 2-lane Shillong Western Bypass road is at the final stage of land acquisition implementation.
He said that the timeline for the completion of the project is two years from the declaration of the appointed date/commencement of the work.
“I am following up (the matter) very closely and I am so happy to inform that the Ministry of Road Transport has given sanction of Rs 681.63 crore as land compensation and we are awaiting for the funds to be placed in the respective deputy commissioners and I am sure we will get this fund within this current financial year,” Tynsong said.
He also informed that the starting point of the 38.256 km Shillong Western Bypass is near Lad Umsaw and the ending point is near Lad Mawreng.
Leader of Opposition Ronnie V Lyngdoh had requested the intervention of Tynsong to speed up construction of the Shillong Western Bypass in order to ease the problem of traffic congestion in Shillong city.
He also lauded the steps taken by the deputy CM in resolving the land acquisition problem in regards to the Shillong – Dawki road project, which now work is in progress.
