Shillong, Dec 14: The Centre has set a target for the state government to complete 1,250 kilometers of road under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) during the current financial year.
Informing this on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong said, “I am very happy to inform the people of the state that the Government of India has already given us the target for this current financial years (to complete) not less than 1,250 kms of PMGSY throughout the state.”
Tynsong said the chief engineer and secretary of the PWD have been asked to start preparing the detailed project reports (DPRs).

Stating that it is not a joke for Meghalaya, being a small state to get such sanction, the deputy CM said, “It will really benefit the citizens of the state, if we are able to complete upgradation and improvement of 1,250 kms of existing roads.”
When asked, Tynsong informed the Centre has so far approved roads in 16 out of 46 community and rural development blocks in the state. “And the balance I am sure they will be able to complete towards the end of this month,” he added.
