Shillong, July 28: The Centre is yet to sanction necessary funds for restoring the damages caused by the recent landslides and flash floods in the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters that the state government had already submitted its proposal and is now waiting for the necessary sanction. He informed that the central team sent by the Ministry of Home Affairs had already visited the affected places across the state.
“Again, the committee under the chairmanship of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah will sit down and will accordingly decide what is the sanction amount to be given to Meghalaya,” Tynsong said.
Earlier, the state government had initially estimated the damages to be only Rs 300 crore.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, after conducting inspection of the affected areas had stated considering the extensive damages caused, the state needed more funds to restore many roads and bridges which were washed away and others.
