Shillong, Oct 24: The village headman of Lumdaitkhla Bhoirymbong has threatened to take legal action against the leader of the Saindur Tipkur Tipkha Ehrngiew Hynniewtrep (STIEH) president for recording their private telephone conversation without his consent.
S.T Rympei the Lumdaitkhla headman, has demanded an apology from STIEH president Purity Phawa within 24 hours for allegedly violating his privacy.
The telephonic conversation between the two has circulated online in the last few days, in which Phawa has repeatedly confronted and condemned Rympei for his decision as headman to allow the organisers to conclude the Cherry Blossom Festival on a Sunday.
STIEH being one of the organisations that has continuously opposed this, as Sunday is the sacred and holy day for the Christians. Taking the matter into their own hands, STIEH leader went on to make a phone call to Lumdaitkhla Headman and to confront him. Speaking to reporters today, Rympei expressed his dismay at Phawa’s decision to share the call recording without his consent, which he views as a violation of his privacy. The recording has since been widely disseminated, especially on various social media platforms.
The Lumdaitkhla headman stated that if he does not receive an apology within the specified time frame, he may proceed with legal action against Phawa.
This year’s edition of the Cherry Blossom Festival is set to take place at Madan Kurkalang, which is situated within Lumdaitkhla Bhoirymbong. The festival is scheduled to begin on November 17 and wrap up on November 19. However, certain pressure groups have voiced criticism over the decision to conclude the event on a Sunday.
