Must read

Aizawl, April 18: Good Friday, one of the most solemn and significant observances in the Christian calendar, was marked with reverence and devotion across Mizoram on Friday.

In the Presbyterian Church, worshippers reflected on the themes of ‘Judgment on Jesus’ during the morning service, and ‘Life Forsaking God’ in the afternoon. A well-attended evening service was also held on Thursday night, filled with spiritual fervour.

Members of the Baptist Church of Mizoram (BCM) gathered to hear sermons centred on the theme “He healed others, but cannot heal himself,” drawn from Mark 15:3, highlighting the sacrificial nature of Jesus’ suffering.

Meanwhile, the United Pentecostal Church (UPC) North East and Mizoram, along with the Salvation Army, observed the day through localized church activities, without a unified statewide theme.

The Catholic Church, known for its deep traditions on Good Friday, observed fasting as a sign of shared suffering with Jesus Christ. Across Aizawl, Catholic parishes held various observances, including Cross processions, Mass celebrations, Cross worship, and word-of-mouth ministry.

On Thursday evening, churches hosted the Holy Eucharist and the traditional Kesil Service. A symbolic foot-washing ceremony was also held, where priests washed the feet of 12 selected parishioners, echoing the humility of Christ.
