Guwahati, Dec 24: The people of Guwahati decked up for Christmas and busy in buying decorative items and gifts for their home.
There is a lot of busyness in churches around Christmas. There is a lot of excitement about Christmas in the state along with the rest of the world.
Christmas is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, which is observed primarily on 25 December as a religious and cultural celebrating among billions of people around the world.
“The business was good this time compared to the previous years. The people are excited for the festival and visiting the market to buy gifts and decorative items for their home,” said Boby Kalita, a trader.
Pawmali Khunsai said, “This year we are celebrating Christmas as a muted Christmas, because more than 360 churches were burn down in Manipur. So we are not in a mood of enjoyment, but we are here. As a Christian, we are celebrating this time, And we are preparing in a full swing for tomorrow’s programme,”.
He said, “what is Christmas? Christmas is all about love and peace and it is. We are celebrating the birthday of Jesus Christ. He is a Prince of peace. I would like to wish everyone every people,”.
The churches in every part of the state have been decorated. The city is celebrating Christmas for the main holiday of Christians.
There are many different types of Christmas items available in the market. Christmas trees, colorful stars, small dolls, Santa Claus etc. are flooding the market.
“We are celebrating the christmas in our home with our friends. I have come to market to buy decorative items for my home. I am a Hindu but I celebrate the christmas. Christmas is a festival of peace,” said Sima Biswakarma, a resident of Guwahati.
