Shillong, July 7: In a shocking incident, a violent clash erupted between two groups in Laitumkhrah on Friday at around 1:00-1:30 am.
According to Police officials, the fight between the two groups erupted at DHS after boys from Khasi community blocked the road towards Bhagyakul while drinking.
The scuffle between the two groups even resulted to pelting stones at the police station.
Several vehicles including a police gypsy were set ablaze by the mob at the Laitumkhrah police station.
The scuffle between the two groups even landed to the Laitumkhrah Police station to file First Information Reports (FIRs).
Sources also said that the incident started when police allegedly refused to register a complaint lodged by a local, who was beaten up in-front of the DHS office at Laitumkhrah.
According to reports, the fight between the two communities took place near DHS office in Laitumkhrah.
Tensions escalated rapidly as a heated exchange of words unfolded inside the police station premises taking the situation into a destructive turn when an angry mob outside the police station set police vehicle on fire, causing significant damage.
The mob further resorted to pelting stones at the police station, intensifying the chaos and endangering the safety of the officers present.
Authorities are currently investigating the root cause of the initial altercation and the subsequent events that unfolded at the police station. The motive behind the torching of the police vehicle within the compound of the Laitumkhrah Police Station is yet to be determined.
More details regarding the incident are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
