Sikkim, Oct 4: The Army on Wednesday informed that twenty-three Army personnel are missing in Sikkim after a cloudburst triggered flash floods in the Teesta River.
Following this, a massive search has been launched to find the missing personnel.

The dam in Sikkim’s Chungthang has been damaged leading to sudden overflow and high rise of water in the Tista river.
The road to Sikkim and Kalimpong is closed presently.
The residents of Tista, Rangpho, Singtam and other adjoining areas have been asked to leave their homes and move to higher altitude areas.
Sikkim CM Tweets, “We are all aware of the recent natural calamity that has struck our state. Emergency services have been mobilized to the affected areas, and I personally visited Singtam to assess the damages and engage with the local community. I humbly urge all our citizens to remain vigilant and refrain from unnecessary travel during this critical time. It is essential that we maintain composure and hope for a swift return to normalcy in our region.”

Towns along the river like Dikchu, Singtam, Rangpo severely impacted. Many vital bridges were washed away.
BJP state president Dr Thapa said “Several properties have been damaged. I request all institutions to support Sikkim. I took stock of the situation in the morning and will do it again.”

The release of water from the Chungthang dam led to a sudden increase in water levels up to 15–20 feet downstream.
Vehicles are reported submerged under the slush.
High-alert was issued by the Sikkim administration to residents after the cloud burst in Singtam.
Chief minister Prem Singh Tamang also took stock of the flood-like situation in the affected areas.
The flash flood took place after water was released from the Chungthang dam.
