Shillong, Oct 19: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Monday allayed fears on the proposed ‘iconic’ building at Barik, Shillong by stating that multiple objectives are being considered to recreate development structures in the city.
He made the statement after meeting a delegation led by UDP working president Bindo Lanong along with a group of 14 Rangbah Shnong of Shillong.
“It has to be seen in a larger picture and overall picture of what we are planning to do,” said Sangma while stating that ‘iconic’ structure in Shillong city will be created considering different aspects including decongestion, parking, logistics and beautification of Shillong city.
He also added that economic viability will also be taken into considering while finalizing a proposed project, so that it is sustainable.
After the meeting Lanong expressed their satisfaction on the clarification given by the Chief Minister on establishment of a proposed ‘iconic’ structure in Shillong. “Such a building can come up somewhere else in the city and not necessarily in Barik,” Lanong said.
He appreciated the views expressed by the Chief Minister on the need to decongest and beautify Shillong for overall promotion of tourism in the State.
Rangbah Shnong of Dorbar Shnong Nongrim Hills Bantylli Narry told media that they are very happy with the outcome of the meeting as Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has assured to look into the issue.
