Shiilong, July 9: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Sunday greeted the people of Meghalaya on the ocassion of Behdienkhlam festival.
Taking to Twitter, CM wrote, “Wishing everyone a joyous Behdienkhlam festival!”

About Behdienkhlam
Behdienkhlam is a festival of chasing away the Demon of Cholera it is celebrated annually in the month of July after the sowing period.
This is also one of the most important dance festival of the Jaintia tribes of Meghalaya.
Also, this festival is also an invocation to God, seeking his blessings for a bumper harvest.
Although, in this festival, the women don’t take part in the dancing, as one of the important function of offering sacrificial food to the spirits of the forefathers.
The Behdienkhlam festival held at Jowai is one of the most well known and recreational festival in Meghalaya.
