Shillong, July 4: Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma on Tuesday met Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
CM Conrad said that he had a fruitful interaction with Union Education Minister on Tuesday morning.
He said, Meghalaya has huge backlog of untrained teachers due to limited institutional facilities.
CM further said that he have apprised the Minister to support Government of Meghalaya for establishment of College of Teacher Education (CTE).
“Also, urged him to consider the request from the State Government to clear the backlog as a one time amnesty programme for the secondary, higher secondary in-service teachers of Meghalaya under the IGNOU programmes and for the elementary in-service teachers under the NIOS programme,” he added.
He further said, “the State Government is preparing to implement NEP in its entirety and considering the requirement, the Government has sought centres support to upscale infrastructure in the schools of the State.”
CM said, “in addition have requested GoI to support the State with the funding pattern under SSA for allowing the State to comply with NEP 2020 aims and objectives.”
“Also urged the GOI to fill up the post of Pro Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Finance Officer and University Engineer that is lying vacant in North Eastern Hill University (NEHU). We have also requested him to consider to fill up over 200 plus teaching and non teaching posts that are lying vacant in the university,” Conrad said.
He also urged the centre to consider relaxation of norms under PM-USHA scheme, which will benefit the State University, which is in the initial stage of being operational.
