CM pushes for Green-Friendly Stadium Upgrade
Tura, Jan 27: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma visited the Alotgre Stadium in Tura on Sunday as the BCCI Col. CK Nayudu Test Match between Meghalaya and West Bengal unfolded.
The match, which began on January 25, concluded a day early on January 26, with West Bengal securing victory over Meghalaya.
During his visit, the Chief Minister engaged with officials from the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) and the Tura District Cricket Association (TDCA) at the stadium pavilion. Key discussions were held on enhancing sports infrastructure at the venue.
The MCA officials sought the state government’s intervention for the construction of a stadium gallery and accommodation facilities within the stadium premises. Responding to their requests, CM Sangma emphasised the need to preserve the trees surrounding the ground. He urged the officials to devise a plan that integrates the existing greenery with the proposed gallery construction.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister advised the officials to prepare and submit a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed development. He assured them of his personal commitment to advancing the project.
During his visit, CM Sangma also took time to meet the West Bengal cricket team. He thanked the players for traveling to Tura and emphasised how their presence would inspire local youth and boost the region’s cricketing spirit.
