Villagers of Rewak in Siju area of South Garo Hills organise their annual community fishing called Wari Bila by the Attong sub-tribe of the Garos. This annual event is organised during the winter season, preferably in January and February, when the adult and matured fish variety is netted.
While the community shares the rewards of the fishing, a major chunk of the fish is shipped off to the markets if Garo Hills and Assam where fish traders eagerly await to procure it to be sold at a very high price to customers many of whom place their orders ahead with the fish mongers in anticipation of the fishing expedition in Garo Hills. photos by Rakkam A Sangma, Siju-Rewak MLA.
