Shillong, Dec 17: National People’s Party (NPP) state chief and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday expressed confidence that the people of the Khasi and Jaintia regions will vote for a ‘double engine government’ in the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), slated to be held on February 21, 2025.

Speaking to media persons, Tynsong said that the NPP is gearing up its preparation for the ADC elections. The party had already announced its first list of 18 candidates for KHADC and 20 for JHADC.

“There are few constituencies, which we are yet to declare the names. However, I hope within January 10, we will complete the process of announcing the names of all the candidates for the elections to the two ADCs,” he added.

The NPP is leading the executive committees in both the KHADC and JHADC.

Highlighting the party’s achievements, Tynsong said, “I am confident that the people will vote for a double engine government in the upcoming ADC polls.”

“I am confident that the people will look at the performance of the NPP-led government. Issues which governments in the past have failed to address are now being resolved and attended to by the present state government under the abled leadership of the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma,” he said.

He noted that recently deputy chief minister Sniawbhalang Dhar had laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of the Iawmusiang market, which had been left unattended for the past many years and the instruction is to immediately start the work. “Therefore, people now understand very well that voting for the NPP will only bring benefits and voting the party back to power is like having a double engine government in which the ADCs are working together with the state government for the all round development,” he added.

Also predicting that the people will not vote based on “wave”, the NPP state chief said that the party has won with a huge margin in the just concluded Gambegre bye-election. “We have seen that the priority of the voters of Gambegre is development not wave, lip service or good election music,” he said.

The deputy CM said he has every reason to believe that people will repose their faith in the NPP candidates and will ensure the party forms the EC in both the ADCs.
