Tura, Oct 3: The Congress party has announced the name of Hashina Yasmin Mondol, the widow of Dr Azad Zaman, as the candidate for the Rajabala bye-election.
The announcement was made on Sunday evening by AICC general Secretary Mukul Wasnik.
Earlier, HubNews had broken the story of the likely candidature of Dr Azad’s widow for Rajabala.
“She was the best candidate for the ticket and is also a very educated and knowledgeable person. We are optimistic she will do exceedingly well,” informed Congress sources.
Two other candidates of the Congress were also announced by Wasnik. The Congress has nominated Highlander Kharmalki to be the party candidate for the Mawryngneng- ST constituency and Kennedy C Khriem for the Mawphlang-ST constituency. All three constituencies are going to the polls on 30th October.
The announcement has left out another aspirant for the party ticket, former MLA Ashahel D Shira who has also been mobilising his supporters and holding campaigns in preparation for the upcoming elections.
Shira, who lost to Dr Azad in the 2018 elections is optimistic of the elections and says that no matter what, he will be contesting.
The NPP has fielded former Mahendraganj MLA Abdus Saleh for Rajabala.
