New Delhi, June 16: National Secretary of the Indian National Congress party, Szarita Laitphlang, has made a heartfelt appeal to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. In a series of tweets, Laitphlang implored Khan to visit his former teacher, Brother Eric D’Souza, fondly known as “Dasu,” who is critically ill in Goa.
“Brother Eric’s health is weakening with each passing day,” Laitphlang shared. “Mumbai is not far from Goa. If you could spare some time and visit him, he is perhaps waiting for Shah Rukh to come. He played an important role in your life just like many others.”
Laitphlang included a video clip from the TV show “Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai,” showcasing the close bond between Khan and D’Souza during Khan’s school days at St. Columba’s School in New Delhi, where D’Souza was a teacher. The Congress leader expressed hope that Khan’s visit would provide comfort to the ailing educator.
Brother Eric D’Souza has had a distinguished career in education, teaching at various schools across India, including in West Bengal, New Delhi, Mangalore, Assam, and Meghalaya. Known for his innovative teaching methods incorporating visual imagery, mind-mapping, and humour, D’Souza is particularly esteemed.
In Meghalaya, D’Souza founded Providence, a school for underprivileged children, in collaboration with counsellor Samantha Syiem.
As news of D’Souza’s deteriorating health spreads, many of his former students and colleagues join Laitphlang in urging Shah Rukh Khan to visit his beloved former teacher during this difficult time.
