TURA, Jan 08: New Congress MP in charge of Meghalaya Dr A. CHELLAKUMAR who arrived in Tura on January 8 with state president Vincent Pala and working president Deobrah Marak to mobilise congress workers and leaders said that the party will go to the people to prove that it was the congress and not the BJP which has been providing people centric policies and accused the saffron party of piggyriding on the grand old party’s policies and schemes.
Today’s crucial meeting was for preparations to the upcoming general elections to Lok Sabha and the party has made January 19 as the deadline for aspiring Congress candidates eyeing the Tura MP seat.
Speaking to reporters post-meeting, Chellakumar and Pala addressed queries regarding the Congress strategy against the BJP and NPP in the upcoming elections.
Chellakumar emphasised that over the past 60 years, the Congress has been instrumental in initiating various projects and infrastructure, including IIT, IIM, NRHM, MGNREGA, etc. He raised concerns, alleging that the Modi government falsely takes credit for these accomplishments.
He further criticised the government’s handling of student loans, highlighting their transfer to Reliance, a private sector entity, under the Modi administration.
